Reliance launches free laptop with unlimited internet scheme

Reliance Communications has launched a scheme under which users can get a free laptop with unlimited internet connection. Reliance has signed an alliance with top companies such as Intel, Acer, HCL, Asus and Lenovo in order to provide this offer. The free laptops will be powered by Intel's 'Atom' and internet connection would be with Reliance's high-speed internet data card.

Reliance had introduced the Rs. 500 scheme for CDMA phones in the year 2003, which changed the dynamics of the mobile phone industry in India and made mobile phones affordable to millions of customers in India. Similarly, this laptop offer with internet connection could create a huge offtake of laptops in India.

Under the scheme which has been announced, a customer will have to pay a monthly installment of Rs 1,500 for two years period.
(So effectively the user will be paying Rs. 36,000 over a period of two years in order to own a laptop and get free unlimited internet connection for 2 years).

The Acer Aspire One laptop configuration (with Linux or Windows) includes 1GB RAM, 120GB / 160 GB, Atom Processor 1.6 GHz, 8.9" screen, 5-in-1 card reader, resolution 1024x600, Intel GMA 950 graphics card, Wi Fi 802.11b/g, Headphone,Microphone,VGA
3 USB Ports.

The details of laptops models from other companies and details of the scheme, availability, etc are expected to be released by the company very soon.
